Biography - 2

I was born in Yonkers, NY and adopted by Thomas and Betty Fielder. For the first seven years of my life we lived in New Canaan, CT.  In 1966 there was a major power blackout in the New York City region and my parents decided to move to Maine. We moved to Pittston, Maine in the summer of 1966. I graduated from Gardiner High School in 1977 and upon graduation attended University of Maine at Augusta and took flying lessons. The day I got my pilot's license I was offered a job at Maine Instrument Flight School. It was great working around planes and getting a chance now and again to fly for free. I decided to attend The University of Maine at Portland/Gorham. That year which was my sophomore year I flunked out of college and joined the US Navy,  My first deployment in Patrol Squadron 44 (which is now decommissioned) was to Okinawa. I loved the culture and atmosphere. Our next deployment was to Rota, Spain and Lajes, Azores. Following that was a deployment to Bermuda and then my final deployment with the squadron was to Sigonela Sicily. I transferred to shore duty to training squadron VP-31, Moffett Field, CA and advanced to First Class Petty Officer (E-6) in 1985. I really enjoyed instructing others. After that assignment I was transferred to the  USS America CV-66 and became the Division Leading Petty Officer of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Module of the Operations Department. I left active duty to take care of my son.

I got a job with State of Maine Government and started to learn Personal Computers. My focus was Spreadsheets, Databases, and Word Processing. It was quite a learning process. I learned many valuable lessons along the way that I pass on to my customers. I try and help them avoid some of the pitfalls that taught me much about efficient computing. I was given the opportunity to teach some classes to State Government Employees in computer applications and that was great fun. Then in 1993, I was approached to teach disabled state workers to use Voice Recognition software. In 1995, I decided to go into business for myself and left State Government Employment. I was given a contract to train people using Voice Recognition software and I taught some classes at UMA, The Muskie Center, and Virtual Dimensions in Waterville. I really owe a debt of gratitude to Vocational Rehabilitation. I was able to attend A+ and other networking Classes at V-Tech in South Portland, Maine. I love to teach and troubleshoot. I love to help people become self-sufficient become aware of their computer’s potential. The old saying, "Give a man a fish and he has food for a day, teach a man to fish and he has food for a lifetime," is certainly true. I try to stay abreast of the latest technologies and I'm always learning new things

Here's a couple of photos.

Current photo of me

My first Navy Squadron, VP-44 Golden Pelicans. It is now de-commissioned. Got to see both West-Pac and the Med. We even got to take a bird to France and some of us took a train into Paris for a short stay.

My Instructor Tour Squadron, VP-31 Black Lightning Camp. A real place of growth for me professionally. Loads of fun and trips to the Orient every few months. Never call your wife on her birthday from Honolulu while she is home taking care of the kids. Women don't have a good sense of humor that way.

My last Duty Station-USS America CV-66. My office was below the flight deck in Command and Control. My claim to fame was giving Jeraldo Rivera a tour of the America during Fleet Week in New York City in 1988. We were on his show in the audience, then he asked a bunch of us for a tour. He was gracious and a pretty regular guy. The ship was decommissioned and in 2005 was towed 300 miles out to sea then used for testing future carrier design sunk and the exact position of the sinking is available to view online. If you want to dive the wreck, you might want some really deep water gear because it is down about 18,000 ft.
